Eric Bellinger Details His Experience Working On Beyonce’s Album [Video]

Musician Eric Bellinger has quite the resume. Currently working on “The Documentary 2” with Game, Eric has arranged dozens of tracks for some of the top artists in the game right now, but unfortunately, as he’ll explain, a majority of the time him or any other producer’s work just won’t make the cut. “I had six songs on Beyonce’s album before it came out, then when it came out I had none,” he recalls. Picture this: 20 people getting flown out to Jay Z and Beyonce’s Hamptons’ mansion to record a secret album. That was Bellinger’s life at one point, as he spent three weeks with Beyonce and the rest of her writing camp before the release of her self-titled surprise album in 2013. Along with other top-tier songwriters and producers like Benny Blanco, Eric Bellinger wrote over 30 songs over the three-week span in his bedroom that came equipped with his own personal studio. Unfortunately in the end, none of Eric’s tracks were used on the album since Bey’s teamed “changed direction on the album,” but he tells us “just the experience alone changed my life.” Watch the interview above to hear about him and Jay Z’ s ping-pong battles, his time in London working with Rihanna, and how he feels he has an advantage over other songwriters in this compelling exclusive.

After checking in with King Los on his dense “Black Blood” record, our second installment of Between The Lines brings us to Obie Trice’s feel-good party track, “Good Girls,” which despite being built for the club, is similarly wordy. Full of multi-syllabic rhymes and some hilarious punchlines, Obie takes us through bar-by-bar, telling us all about the “bae-dar” (kinda like gay-dar, but for baes!), handling your business with a woman in the first 48, the Detroit roots embedded in his rhymes, and the ultimate goal in music– the Grammys.

Freeway On Police Brutality: “Rappers Need To Be More Responsible” [Video]

Back in May Jay Z brought Freeway, Young Gunz, Memphis Bleek and Beanie Sigel on stage during his Tidal X/B-Sides concert, one that was a surprise to many since Jay and Sigel weren’t on the best terms. Freeway says the reunion was “one of the best times of my life, you know, just to be back on stage rocking with my brothers,” and “hopefully we can do some more stuff in the future.” In this interview the legendary Philly artist spoke on police brutality, an issue that has been made more aware due to social media and technology as a whole. Freeway believes police being recorded “might slow them down,” but at the end of day it’s up to hip-hop artists to take some accountability and bring awareness to the situation. “As role models and as people in the forefront we definitely need to step up and be more responsible and look at what we’re doing,” he concluded. Watch the clip to hear his thoughts on Chet Haze using the n-word, how hip-hop chooses to respect “people who go hard,” and hear him spit a freestyle as we await “Free Will,” his fifth solo album due out in a couple of months.
