Read moreG Herbo talks his new situation with NYC label Cinematic and future collabs with labelmate Joey Bada$$. Hot off his album-quality mixtape, Ballin Like I’m Kobe, G Herbo came through HNHH to give us an update on his new label situation as well as more projects he’s got coming in the near future. BLIK is the first project Herbo has dropped since changing his name from Lil Herb, and it’s his first release since signing with Cinematic Music Group. The 20-year-old Chicago rapper says he’s been going by G Herbo for awhile now — the name was given to him by his homies, with the “G” standing for “General” — a signifier of how he moves as an artist. The official name change represents his “maturing from a boy to a man.” Before signing, Cinematic CEO Johnny Shipes took an interest in Herbo and eventually got on board with his management team. After building a relationship, Herbo thought signing to the label, joining a roster of Joey Bada$$, Kirk Knight, Mick Jenkins, and more, was the right thing to do for his music. And so far, so good, as proven by BLIK. Herbo ends the interview by speaking on his new Metro Boomin-produced track with Joey Bada$$, “Lord Knows,” and how it’s the first of many collabs to come from the new labelmates. They’ve already got a couple more songs ready for release.
