Kendrick Lamar – Money Trees (Live In Chicago) [Video]

The self-proclaimed “King of New York” — aka Kendrick Lamar — is heading out on tour with Kanye West this fall, but don’t expect to see him onstage in the Big Apple. While the tour wraps across the U.S., King Kendrick’s name is mysteriously missing from the bill for the back-to-back shows at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on Nov. 19 and 20, as well as No. 23 and 24 at Madison Square Garden. (To be fair K.Dot is also not scheduled to open for Kanye at the Oct. 25 stop in Las Vegas, nor Nov. 16th in Philly and Nov. 30th in Tampa, Fla.). Lamar’s verse on Big Sean’s “Control” called out several rappers and flipped the New York Rap King title on the West Coast rapper. For the most part, hip-hop praised Kendrick’s lyricism as it fueled reactions — some positive and some negative — throughout the rap community. But, some people — err, Drake — recently have been changing their tune about the verse that rocked rap this summer, despite new albums/lyrics from Jay-Z, Kanye West, J. Cole, Mac Miller, Wale and Big Sean. Still, it leaves us asking if it’s a coincidence or not that Kendrick Lamar is not playing the city he claims the throne to, or perhaps Kanye West is just watching the throne for someone else? Yeezy promises a “special guest” for his NYC performances to be announced at a later date. For all you New Yorkers still itching to see Kendrick, we got you covered with this throwback to the summer. VIBE caught Kendrick Lamar onstage at the Aragon Ballroom in August following his set at Lollapalooza.
